Donn is a retired architect.  He loves to sail and has been sailing most of his life owning my first sailboat when he was 7 years old, a 12' Snowbird in Newport Harbor-Balboa Island.  His wife Shelley, who is also a lifelong avid sailor, sail their Newport 33 every weekend.  It gives them a sense of piece and joy. Donn gets that same joy from being a small part of enriching the lives of the youth of our Boys & Girls Club.  He's been a member of the Board of Directors for 17 years now and feels truly honored to be selected the Chair for these extraordinary members of the Board.

What inspires him?  The staff, the magnificent Club Staff.  To Donn, they are the heart of the Boys & Girls Club and they are absolutely inspiring in the work they do for our youth every day.  Drop in and meet them some day.  You'll be glad you did.

This is one busy lady! Christine is a past Board Chair and has held numerous executive positions over multiple terms while also chairing multiple committees and fundraisers. Volunteering started early for Christine as she was part of President Nixon's "Plant a Tree" project.  Her picture was even in the Star News for planting trees outside of West View Elementary along with some classmates.  It showed her how one person could make a difference when volunteering.  Christine says, "Nonprofit work is a natural fit as there is always a young person out there that needs your support and guidance.  Seeing the programs at the Boys & Girls Clubs of South County and the difference that our staff make every day is a blessing.  I have seen kids grow up and go to college just to come back and thank the staff for their encouragement and leadership.  Knowing that serving on the Board helps make the difference in these kids' lives is uplifting." Christine loves going to Disneyland and Disney World and can't get enough.  "It's such a great way to experience all kinds of people and see excitement on kids' faces as they interact with characters and ride the attractions."

Serving the communities that have provided so much for me and my family is the reason I am passionate about the Boys & Girls Clubs of South County. As a boy, the Imperial Beach Clubhouse was a place that my brothers and I would go to enjoy sports, games and art. I still remember the smell of cutting Plexiglas to form shapes and making things, traveling to other clubs and competing in basketball. As a Navy brat, our Dad was away every six months it seemed, our time at the BGC really felt like it gave our Mom a well-deserved break. Today, my time spent at the Clubhouse's are as a Board of Director ensuring the youth of our communities have the same opportunities as my family had. My joys today revolve around spending time with family, sport fishing, traveling, occasionally surfing and giving back to the community I enjoy so much.   Carlos joined the board in 2014 and immediately hit the ground running. His partnerships within the Chula Vista community lead to a donation of hundreds of gifts for the Boys & Girls Clubs of South County's annual Breakfast with Santa. Carlos cultivated Republic Services as our Title Sponsor for our Annual Ann & Dick Dickerson Golf Tournament. His philanthropic efforts lead Carlos in becoming the BGC 2015-2016 Board Member of the Year for his exceptional service and giving.

Paul is a founding board member since 1966. He has held all of the board positions, including President, honoring him in 1968-1969 as Board Member of the Year.  Paul and his wife Mary are one of the most generous benefactors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of South County. Paul is the first Emeritus board member for the Boys & Girls Clubs of South County. To recognize Paul and Mary's impact on the Club the Imperial Beach Clubhouse is named after them (1996).      As a retired Building Contractor, my spare time is filled with many opportunities to stay fresh by assisting others in their projects and serving on Architectural Committees. I spend many hours and days in the great pursuit of a perfect lunch. I'm inspired by people who are dedicated in helping others. Such as groups that work with the mentally challenged. Volunteering with them and seeing the joy they bring is truly inspirational. My wife and daughters inspire me with their excellent lifestyle and willingness in helping others. Why nonprofit? The rewards are tremendous when you give of yourself to help others. Being able to witness the positive impact the Boys & Girls Club has on the youth in our community is an excellent reason to endorse nonprofit work. Who is hero? Colin Powell, he has spent his life in service to his family, his military, his country and now the youth of America, all in dignity and grace. Quirky — I see most things in a punny way.
